  The thing I have a hard time understanding with all the redundant bethelites

  this has probably been touched on before but i thought i would mention it again.

  the problem i have with all the redundant bethelites.

  they were virtually getting free labour.

  Does Jehovah Intervene - JW Teaching

  i have been a jw my whole life and i have never been able to get a clear answer on this question.

  jw's do not believe that jehovah will intervene if someone is sick, dying or stopping a car crash.

  they feel that jehovah is letting "this world" play out before he solves all of these problems.

  Not far from where I live, three young girls were abducted and held captive for over 10 years. They were raped, beaten, chained, tortured, etc, until they finally were able to escape. Do you really think God is answering prayers for gas money while letting those girls suffer all that time and countless other situations like it? And if he does, why would you worship a God like that? I would have zero respect for a God that answered my prayers.

  Hedge Funds Still Off

  did the investment guru(s) at bethel pick the wrong fund manager, and hence the big need for cash?.

  laggner refers to companies like valeant, sunedison and micron technology as hedge fund hotels, where you check in but cant check out.. i mean they cant get out because they are the market, laggner said.

  when they all try to get out, the stock collapses.. valeant is a classic example of a hedge fund hotel in that it has dropped from a high of $260 a share to the $100 range as the stock was obliterated by sellers.

  I'm only guessing but probably what happened is they panicked in the market crash of 2007 through 2009 and got out at the bottom and lost a ton of money. Then they decided they wouldn't make that mistake again and invested in midstream oil pipeline MLP funds which were considered very safe before the crash in oil prices. I remember reading somewhere that they are holding a lot of energy funds.

  I do hope one day that you feel comfortable sharing why you left. At least the CliffsNotes version. I am curious because you're obviously much more well read that I. Also, you're not a dogmatic black and white thinker. So obviously if you feel it's the truth naturally I'd like to know why. What am I missing? Am I just too stupid to see the obvious?

  I still feel it's possible that Jehovah's Witnesses have the truth. For me it's not a matter of whether or not it's the truth but the character of the person called Jehovah. Does he deserve to be worshipped? If Jehovah's Witnesses have the correct interpretation should I worship a God that couldn't think of a better solution than destroying billions of people and causing all this suffering? I don't like Jehovah.

  I don't know if this helps, but imagine Leolaia doing what you did? Wouldn't you be the least bit curious?

  Talesin, regarding the Grey Owl and Archibald Belaney, I was familar with him before this thread only because I dragged slimboyfat's avatar into Google image search some time ago. I read about his history because I was curious about why slimboyfat would choose that image. I couldn't know about the historical accuracy of what I read though.

  edit: Oops, sorry Talesin, I just noticed the second part of your question wasn't directed toward me.

  The word "America" is actually part of the official name of the country known as "The United States of America" so it makes sense that when people use the word "America" or "American" they're referring to the "United States of America" or someone from that country. Of course technically everyone from North and South America is "American" just as everyone from Europe is European. If the official name of Canada was something like "Canada of America" I suppose it would make sense to call people from the "United States of America" by another name. What would you like to call us? "United-Statesians"?

  it just felt so good to say to a jw i don't feel the guilt this booklet says i must be feeling.

  i don't feel guilty for having a great big christmas tree or letting my daughter have birthdays, easter eggs, dress up at halloween, have sleepovers and friends, i told her.

  i only feel guilty about not contributing to live aid and bandaid and giving the money to a cult instead.

  The REAL reason I believe they did away with Christmas was to make sure Witnesses had NO contact with their non-JW relatives.

  Exactly LongHairGal! However, for me, the birthday celebration ban is what truly exposes their motives. There is no real justification for that other than separating you from your non-Witness friends and family. Given that, I'm convinced that's the real reason behind all the other holiday bans too. In my mind, they may have successfully concealed their true motives had they not banned birthday celebrations too.

  i just watched this clip on youtube....i can't begin to say how it made me feel.

  , i'm not sure who i am more annoyed about.

  the bloke doing the commentry, the punk shouting at a serious and should be respectful religious event, or some of the youtube comments that follow.. and i find this so disrespectful.

  I'm learning more and more to wait until I cool off to choose how to react or whether to react at all.

  I'm working on this too. Mainly work related issues. I'm averse to confrontation but some situations bring out a part of myself that I don't like.
